About This Lesson

A fun, interactive spin the wheel activity  that prompts children to search for different tree features (like leaves, bark, buds, or cones) during an outdoor scavenger hunt. It encourages observation, exploration, and tree identification in a playful way. 🌳

Get ready to spin, search and discover! 🌳

Step into nature with this fun, hands-on tree hunt from the Spin The Wheel.io. Give the wheel a spin and see where it lands; will you be searching for palmate leavesbarkcones, or even tiny buds?

Once you’ve got your feature, head out and explore. Look closely at the trees around you, check their leaves, feel their bark, spot flowers or fruits, and see what clues you can find.

How to play 🌳

  1. Spin the wheel
  2. Land on a tree feature like leaves, bark, buds, or cones.
  3. Go (explore!)
  4. Head into the woods, park or green space and search for your feature on real trees.
  5. Look closely
  6. Use your detective skills; check shapes, textures, colours and patterns to match what you’ve spun.
  7. Make your match
  8. Find a tree that shows your feature and see if you can identify it!
  9. Spin again
  10. Try a new feature and keep the scavenger hunt going.

Top tip: The more clues you spot, (like leaves, bark and fruits together) the easier it is to identify your tree! 🌿
