About This Webinar

With AI tools in kids’ pockets, deepfakes in their feeds, and new platforms emerging monthly, yesterday’s digital citizenship lessons aren’t enough to prepare them for tomorrow’s challenges. Join Sue Thotz, Director of Regional Outreach, Common Sense Education, as she unveils Common Sense Media’s NEW Digital Literacy & Well-Being Curriculum—designed specifically for the realities that students face today.

Whether you’re new to digital literacy education or have been using Common Sense’s previous curriculum, she will show you how to help students not just consume digital content safely, but also think critically, create responsibly, and maintain their well-being in an increasingly complex online world. Attendees will leave with:

  • An in-depth understanding of the updated curriculum and new lessons that cover everything from healthy habits to online harms, the impact of AI, combating misinformation, managing digital overwhelm, understanding algorithmic influence, and building positive and nurturing relationships, online and off
  • Seamless transition strategies for educators already using Common Sense materials
  • Practical classroom implementation tips that work with your existing schedule

We’ve got you covered with research-backed resources, ready-to-use lessons, and the support you need to tackle these essential topics from day one.

This webinar is part of Share My Lesson's 2026 Virtual Conference. Join the community or register for all sessions.

Headshot of Sue ThotzSue Thotz

Director of Regional Outreach, Common Sense Education

Sue Thotz is a senior program manager for Common Sense Education. In 2011, Sue began working for Common Sense in Chicago by partnering with educators and parents to help them create a culture where students use technology in a meaningful, thoughtful, and respectful way. Since moving to Los Angeles in 2014, Sue has provided educational leadership through motivating keynotes, professional development workshops, conference presentations, and consulting with districts across Southern California.

Prior to Common Sense, Sue was a researcher and educator. She worked with Abt Associates to manage an experimental study evaluating the efficacy of a computer-based literacy curriculum across 44 randomized Chicago public schools. Through the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health, Sue conducted research on community food security, eventually teaching those same assessment methods to high school students to take civic action in their own neighborhoods. Sue conducted qualitative interviews evaluating nutritional practices among rural women in Vietnam using a community-based participatory Photovoice technique in partnership with the National Institute of Nutrition. Sue holds a master's degree in public health and an undergraduate degree in zoology and chemistry. She lives in a small house with a 13-year-old reader, an 11-year-old gamer, and a most clever musician.
